Ewww... Bug problem!

There were bugs in my bathroom!

I kept noticing these little gnat like creatures on my mirror in the bathroom.  I would take a towel and kill them but the next time I went in there, there would be just as many as before ~ even more!

What in the world?  Where were these little buggers coming from?  It's not like I had tomatoes and fruit in the bathroom for them to be drawn to.  They kept showing up on the mirror.
I did notice that there was something a little different about these "gnats."  They had a little red on their head.  Soon I realized that they were baby flies!  Double EWWW!!

My bathroom is clean!  Where could flies be nesting?

Enter: Good ol' Google!

Around here, I'm known as the Google Queen.  I can find just about anything on Google.

So, I Google searched it and discovered that these little buggers weren't gnats at all.  They were baby flies.  Where do they live and how can I get rid of them?

Come to find out, they lay their eggs in your drain!  EWWWW!!  That's right ladies.  They are called "drain flys" or dare I say... "sewer flies."  Then, they hatch, fly out of your sink, and wind up congregating on the mirror!

The website said to dump drain cleaner down the drain and that takes care of the problem.  Simple solution to a very gross issue.

The question is, how many gross issues do we have in our lives?  Flies/issues just show up from what seems to be nowhere and cause problems.  The truth is, there lies a deep issue that we can't see from the outside.

What do we see?  A cute little family.  A happy little marriage.  A clean house.  A landscaped yard with pretty flowers.  Oh, and let's not forget the ADORABLE little munchkins children!

But what's underneath all that pretty?  Where are those flies/issues coming from?  Everything looks so perfect on the outside but on the inside... there's discouragement, a lack of peace, no joy, frustration, a downcast soul.

God knows.  He sees deep down that drain/heart.  He knows exactly what eggs have been planted and are hatching in our lives.  ....and only He can take care of it!  He can go down deep, into the depths of our heart and soul and take care of all our gunk!  Even if it has been there for YEARS!

Let the Holy Spirit minister to you.  Let Him go deep into those dark places that never seem cleaned out.  He will do it.  Just ask!

Do teen boys think it's un-cool to pray?

Look at 'em.  Teenage boys, praying at the "alter" for people they don't even know.  What's cool about that other than the obvious?  Many of them offer up prayers when it's their very first time in church EVER!

Our youngest (13) is quite the evangelist. He is a people magnet.  People of all ages like to talk with him, hang out with him, and goof off with him.  That is perfect considering there is a whole world out there that needs Jesus.

More than one good thing has come out of us being "homeless" and living in my in-law's basement for 22 months.  Our kids made good friends while living in the same neighborhood my husband grew up in.  Yeah, it was strange but it's great now.

Even though we've moved (4 times since then) our son (13) plays with these same boys on a regular basis.  Even though he is the youngest sibling, he is turning into quite the leader.  Even though he is different (homeschooled preacher's boy), they still follow.

Because of his magnetism and leadership, about 8 kids have come to church with our son.  3 of them come on a regular basis and 1 of them has officially accepted Jesus into his life.  I believe 3 others have also but we haven't talked about it yet.

So how do these boys (or their friends) end up at the alter praying for people they don't know?

Our church members collect serious prayer requests from the community, their friends, and their loved ones.  The requests are put on cards and on Wednesdays, the cards are spread out all over the church.  After the worship and after their faith is stirred up through a mini sermon, people are let loose to pray over whichever cards they want.

These boys willingly go to the stage "alter" and kneel or sit and pray.  It is soooo touching that I often tear up.  Even though they may have never been in church before and don't come from Christian homes, they don't find it "un-cool" to pray for others.

God is so amazing!  Many people have said that when they walk through the doors of our church, they feel the power of God.  Others say that they feel a blanket of love.  I believe that these teenage boys feel both and WANT it!

Hallelujah!

Out of the Heart

What do you think of this?

"But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.'"

I was reading something by a person who kept calling themselves names, in a cute funny way of course. ;)  I couldn't help but feel kinda bad for them.  Then this verse came to my mind.

Have you heard this verse before?  It's Matthew 15:18.  What do you think of?

Why do Christian kids leave the "faith?"

The stats are staggering!

Do you know how many kids are leaving the "faith" or the "church?"  This is not something that we should ignore and stick our heads in the sand!

The following is quoted from Conversant Life:
Percentage of Christian kids leaving the church

Sheila Gregory wrote this post "5 Steps to Raising a Child Who Will Stay Christian" which spurred my investigation, opinions, and now a post.  (Thank you Sheila from To Love Honor & Vaccum.)

(The following is taken from my comment on her post with some additions.)

My honest belief as to why Christian kids leave the church is because they don't see the power of God in the lives around them including their parents.  I believe that if kids saw miracles happening in the lives around them, if kids saw the blessing and favor of God on a regular basis, they would "choose life."  Deut. 30:19

How are they supposed to "choose life" if they never see it?

How many hours a week are most Christian kids in church?  Maybe 2? That's the "faithfuls" who go once a week.  How many hours are most kids in school?  About 35.   What is the average TV usage by kids per week? 28 hours. (LA Times Newspaper)

So what does that equal for the year?

Church (if they don't miss even one):  104 hours / year
School (if they are only there for the typical school day): about 1200 hours / year.
TV: 1456 hours / year.

So, why are Christian kids leaving "the faith?"  It's really not a mystery.

A Family That Serves Together

Every couple of months our church goes downtown Chicago and has the privilege of serving dinner to the poor, homeless, and lonely.  It's quite an experience as there is such a vast array of people that go there to eat.

Some people have to choose between eating and paying their gas bill or rent.  Some are pimps and some prostitutes.  Some are totally drunk and some are high.  Some people are just lonely and want to get out of their apartment for a little socializing.

All are loved by God and we are happy to serve them dinner, pray for them, or just chat.

We are happy to be able to serve along side our boys and my parents.  What a unique privilege!

Does your family serve together?  If so, what do you do?

Perfume, Oils, or Body Sprays?

Which is your favorite?

I'm almost out of my body spray (brown sugar and fig) which has been discontinued, and I'm only using it because I ran out of my favorite perfume (Angel).  I purchased a homemade oil that is supposed to smell like Angel, but it is too light and I can't smell it after a couple of hours.

What is a girl to do?  Get more Angel?  OK!  (I think it costs like $70 for a small bottle.)

What is your favorite?

Dinner Menu Planner

I have a great desire to lower our grocery bill without couponing!  I don't want to take the time to coupon (at least until I find an easy QUICK way) as I have tons of other things I'd rather be doing.

So instead, I've been on a sale quest.  I am trying to stock up our pantry using only sales.  It is a slow process but it works for me.

Another thing I am doing is making lunch/dinner menus to keep our week and shopping trips more organized.  I've done this in the past and it really works for me ...until I get off track...

Let me introduce you to "Penny."  She has a beautiful blog with tons of resources for dinners and menu planning.  And guess what?  It's FREE!!  What a sweetie!

Free Menu Planner from Meet Penny

At the bottom of the post, she has her plan for September and a blank one for you to fill in with your own ideas.

Sunday Worship ~ A song in my heart ♥

I love it when I wake up in the morning and my spirit is already worshiping!

HALLELUJAH!

This is the song that was in my ♥ this morning:

Lyrics:

Here in this house of the great King
We come together now to worship Him
This house is built on Christ our rock
Cannot be shaken, cannot be shaken

God is awesome in this place
We sense His presence as we sing His praise
There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free, make the broken whole

God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place

Here in this house of the great King
We come together now to worship Him
This house is built on Christ our rock
Cannot be shaken, cannot be shaken

God is awesome in this place
We sense His presence as we sing His praise
There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free, make the broken whole

God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place

I've found where I belong, I'm a living stone

In this house I will grow
I've found where I belong, I'm a living stone
In this house we will grow

I've found where I belong, I'm a living stone
In this house I will grow
I've found where I belong, I'm a living stone
In this house I will grow

There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free and the broken whole

God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place

There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free and the broken whole

God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome, He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place
